The READY FOR THE ROAD YOUTH responsible driver programe is a 20 hour group for young people who are at risk of future 'driving offending' and are looking to develop and build responsible driving habits. The aim is to be part of the journey towards becoming a safe, responsible, and licenced driver. We will guide and support you to make changes towards this goal, to deal with environmental triggers, to learn better ways to cope, to find the right supports, and ultimately to pass your learners licence test, which is the end part of this programme. This group is run on Marae or in Community Centres in Auckland and aimed at young people aged 16-18.
This group is run in 4 days over two weeks, with the learners licence test being attempted on the final day. Over 90% of participants have successfully gained their learners licence. RFTR is funded by Auckland Transport and supported by the police, who play a vital role in mentoring and supporting attendance.
